Is biodiesel Toxic?

No.

Biodiesel readily biodegrades in the natural environment.

Biodiesel, badly made/not fully reacted, with unreacted Methanol (alcohol)  in it could be considered toxic because of the presence of the Methanol.

Badly made or not fully reacted and Unwashed Biodiesel could contain some small amount of unreacted Alkaline, giving it a base P.H. similar to a strong soap which may irritate sensitive skin, or eyes or exposed mucus membrane.

Most mechanics and engineers who work with diesel machinery find working with biodiesel far more pleasant than with fossil diesel. Particularly when spilt on clothing or skin, and more so when working in exhaust fumes.

Rumor has it, which cannot be confirmed or denied, that the Royal Australian Navy is now using biodiesel for its Diesel powered Submarines, to create a better working environment for the Navy Submariners .Image
